Sue Anne Lewis, 87, of Cheraw, SC, formerly of Chelmsford, MA and Hamden, CT, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026.

Born on January 24, 1939, in New Haven, CT, she was the cherished only child of Harold and Helen Flynn Stretch. Sue Anne was an intelligent and strong independent woman, wholly devoted to her family. She lovingly raised her three daughters and was a doting grandmother. A passionate reader, Sue Anne enjoyed delving into biographies, historical writings, and genealogy. Her love for animals was evident in her care for her beloved dog, Annie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Helen Flynn Stretch.

Sue Anne leaves behind to cherish her loving memory, daughters, Kerry Jeanne Lewis Aponas and husband, John of Amesbury, MA, Kathleen Anne Thomas and husband, Michael of Cheraw, SC and Karen Elizabeth Hammer and husband, Thomas of Cheraw, SC; her grandchildren, Meagan Kathleen Aponas, Jack Christopher Aponas, Abigayle Jane Aponas, Caroline Anne Thomas, Maggie Kathleen Barton and husband, Cody, Katherine Grace Rogerson and husband, Ethan, Meredith Grace Hammer and Michael Thomas Hammer; and great-grandchildren, Adeline, Thomas, Duke, Webb and Tatum.

A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2026, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Hamden, CT. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hamden, CT.
