Rison Elwood "R.E." Mayhew , 87, died Thursday, August 2, 2012.  Born in Gretna, VA he was a son of the late Rison Elwood Mayhew, Sr. and Rebecca Willis Mayhew.  He was a World War II, US Navy Veteran.  Mr. Mayhew was retired from Burlington Industries after 37 years of service.  He was a planning manager and preparation department manager.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he previously served as co-chair of the Family Life Committee, vice-president of the Men's Club, and member of the Staff Parish Relations Committee.  He assisted in the preparation of the church Semi-annual Bar B Q for many years.  He was a member of the Couples Club in Cheraw.  He enjoyed dancing, gardening and fishing.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He enjoyed telling stories, especially those that recounted his years in the Navy.

Surviving are Jane Howle Mayhew of Cheraw, SC, who was the love of his life, a son, Jackie (Sandra) Taylor Mayhew of Chesterfield, SC, daughters, Joan Mayhew Easterling of Cheraw, SC, Wendy L. Mayhew of Charleston, SC, grandchildren, Crystal (Jason) Mayhew McQuage, Rebecca Mayhew Cassidy and a great grandchild, Johnathan Cassidy.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, brothers, Albert Mayhew, George Mayhew, Snow Mayhew, Carroll Mayhew, Gerald Mayhew, sisters, Ruby Shelton, Agnes Short and Pencie Rowland.

The family will receive friends 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM Saturday, August 4, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service will be held 4:00 PM Saturday, August 4, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, SC.
