Reeda Smith

Reeda "Teeny" Marie Young Smith , 81, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from complications of cancer.

Reeda was born on June 17, 1931 in Union, SC.  She was the second of three children born to the late Ernest and Marie Young.  She graduated from Union High School in 1949 and was employed as a financial secretary.

Reeda married the late Earl James Smith in 1950 and they have one son, Earl "Sandy" Smith (Melanie) of Newnan, GA who survives her.  She also has three grandchildren Jeremy Michael, Emily Anne, and Spencer James Smith.  Reeda has one brother, Ernest "Sonny" A. Young (June) of Huntsville, AL and was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Y. Quinn of Union, SC.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Reeda was a loyal member of First Baptist Church since moving to Cheraw in 1972.  She was actively involved in the children's music program, The Belle Hurt Sunday school class, and other children's ministries.  She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Altavista, VA and played the piano and organ for her church there.  Reeda was employed for many years by Furr Paving and Grading until retiring due to health concerns.
