Joe Warner Johnson, age 81, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025. He was born on November 26, 1943, in McFarlan, NC, to the late Thomas Calvin “T.C.” and Flora Nelle McRae Johnson.

Joe grew up on a farm, where he developed a deep love for storytelling, particularly about the animals and experiences of his youth. He dedicated two years of service to the National Guard and spent an esteemed career working at B.C. Moore & Sons, from which he retired after 44 years. Additionally, Joe was a vital team member at Pee Dee Outfitters.

A devoted member of the Cheraw First Baptist Church, Joe served as a Deacon and was actively involved in teaching the Fisherman’s Sunday School Class. His commitment to faith and community extended to his longtime association with the Gideons, where he shared the Word of God in multiple churches.

Joe was a family man who cherished his relationships above all else. He derived immense joy from watching his grandchildren play sports and shared a loving partnership with his wife.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas “Tommy” Johnson and Richard Johnson.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Ronna Snipes Johnson; sons David Johnson of Lincolnton, NC, and Daniel Johnson (Liz) of Charlotte, NC; daughter Darlene Johnson Butler (Todd) of Cheraw, SC; siblings Perry Johnson (Sharon) and Jeffrey Johnson (Shannon), all of McFarlan, NC, and sister Gail Whittington of McFarlan, NC; as well as grandchildren Jordan Smith (Lucas), Luke Johnson, Eli Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Ethan Johnson, William Johnson, Audra Butler, Eryn Butler, and his cherished dog, Chloe.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025, in the Family life center of Cheraw First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Pageland, SC.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Kiser Funeral Home in Cheraw, SC.
