Jeane Page passed away September 17th in Spartanburg, South Carolina with her two daughters by her side. She was the daughter of Manley Oscar and Clara Rivers Griggs. She had three children, Peter Michael Petros Jr. (deceased), Jean Page Watson and Lisa Clarkson (Billy). Her grandchildren are Leslie Pelfrey (Mark), Chase Watson (Lesley Jean) and Laura Katherine Folger (John) and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Larry Middlebrooks.
Jeane graduated from Catawba College and attended St. Coletta College in Wisconsin for special training in learning disabilities. She wrote the first guide in South Carolina concerning teaching special needs children and created a model classroom for special needs high school students in Cheraw, SC. These students were taught life skills as well as needed educational knowledge. Each student completed high school and was able to attain a successful career. She also taught at Florence Darlington Technical College in the English and Psychology department.
She was a world traveler and collected rocks from every place she visited. She had a passion for learning, traveling and loved her books. These were traits she passed on to her children. Her favorite place was the beach and she spent many happy days searching for shark teeth and unusual shells.
Many times, she would say, “Look at that tree can you imagine what it has seen and experienced in its lifetime!” Jeane was a Master Gardner and each season she would have a yard full of blooming flowers. She loved the outdoors, her animals and digging in the dirt. She raised many different breeds of dogs, birds and cats and was an avid lover of all creatures-small and large!
Jeane was a Presbyterian. She lived a colorful life often using flamboyant language! Our mother was an independent soul with an inquisitive spirit and was indeed an intriguing person who lived life to the fullest and did it her way!
In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Thornwell Home, 302 South Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325 or The Humane Society of your choice.
The funeral is planned for 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Cheraw, SC on Saturday, September 23rd with visitation after the funeral.
