Harold Reuben Hainey, 57, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025. Born in Fayetteville, NC, he was the son of Christina and Charles Norton and the late George Hainey, Sr.

After graduating from high school, Harold proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as part of the 64th Engineer Detachment at Fort Knox and later at Fort Bragg. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he continued his commitment to service with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department, retiring at the rank of Captain. Subsequently, Harold held the position of Chesterfield County Emergency Management Director for several years and was serving as a safety officer with the South Carolina Department of Transportation at the time of his passing.

Harold had a passion for sports, particularly football, and had recently taken on the role of officiating high school games. He was a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the South Carolina Gamecocks. Additionally, he enjoyed collecting sports cards, playing golf, and spending time working on and rebuilding Jeeps.

He is survived by his daughter, Christian (Dane) Bohnstedt of Charlotte, NC; sons, Robert (Olivia) Hainey of Portland, Oregon, and David Hainey of Cheraw, SC; his former wife of 34 years, Shannon Coker of Cheraw, SC, his mother and step-father, Christina and Charles Norton of Bennettsville, SC; brothers, George (Hope) Hainey of Bennettsville, SC, and Scott (Angie) Hainey of McColl, SC; grandchildren, Whitfield and Elouise; and numerous other family members.

Harold was preceded in death by his father, George Hainey, Sr. He will be remembered for his service, dedication, and love for his family and community.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Kiser Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends for a short time following the service.
