Fred Matthew Chavis of Cheraw, SC, 41, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Born, August 5, 1984, in Clinton, NC, he was a son of the late Ronnie Dean and Freddi Kaye Reynolds Chavis.

Fred was a proud veteran of the United States Army, living by the principles of God, Family, and Country. Known for his warm spirit and infectious humor, Fred made everyone feel welcome and included. His love for gaming, grilling, cooking, and especially pizza, reflected his zest for life. An avid enthusiast of old military jeeps and a fan of the color blue, Fred cherished these simple joys with passion.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Freddi Kaye Chavis and his father, Ronnie Dean Chavis.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 22 years, Christine Chavis; a son, Jesse Chavis; daughters, Kelli Chavis (Eric Oakes) and Gabrielle Chavis; a brother, Casey Chavis (Amanda Schill); sisters, Ashley Driggers (Joshua) and April Bowen (John); grandchildren, Dawson Rowland and Aubrey Oakes; step-mother, Jo Hannah Brown-Chavis; nieces and nephews, Kailey Driggers, Jacob Driggers, Olivia Chavis, Johnathan Schill, Skylar Chavis, Chris Shane Hunt, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Kiser Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Chavis Cemetery in Bennettsville, SC.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. just prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Kiser Funeral Home has been entrusted to serve the Chavis family in their time of grief.
