Mr. Edwin H. Griggs, 90, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. Born in Marlboro County, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Julia Leviner Griggs. Edwin served in the US Army as a gunner. He worked for the Pet Milk Company, owned Crossroad Grocery, and L&G Auto along with a junkyard. Edwin was also the owner of a rental property business. Edwin enjoyed watching NASCAR every Sunday afternoon and pulling for the Carolina Panthers during football season. In his earlier years, he loved going to the races in Rockingham, Darlington, and Charlotte. On Friday nights, he could be found in Timmonsville watching his son and son-in-law racing at Florence Motor Speedway. Many people would say that Edwin was unapproachable, but if you really knew him you know he was a gentle giant. He would help anyone in need and not think twice about it. Most of all, Edwin loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by his wife, Grace White Griggs; sons, Edwin Chris Griggs, Duncan Chapman; daughters, Deanna D. Miles, Judy D. Clark; grandchild, Brad Lovin; his former wife, Rose C. Griggs and 4 brothers and 7 sisters.
