David Kenneth Townsend, Sr., 86, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Born in Bennettsville, SC, he was a son of the late Charles Evans and Ethel Flowers Moore Townsend, Sr. He was an officer in the United States Army Chaplain Corps. He served 13 years active duty with a tour in Vietnam. He finished his Army career in the United States Army Reserve retiring at the rank of Colonel. He was an active member of AMVETS, VFW, and a member of the Retired Pastor’s Weekly Breakfast Club. He loved his Lord, family, and was an avid reader. He was proud to have served his God and his Country.

Surviving are his sons, David (Detra) Townsend, JR., of Bluffton, SC, Steven (Alisa) Townsend of Columbia, SC, and Michael (Elizabeth) Townsend of Irvine, CA, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above, his wife Anne and his eight siblings.

The family will receive friends 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2019 at First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, Cheraw, SC.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, April 26, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, Cheraw, SC. Burial will be in McCall Cemetery in Bennettsville, SC.
