Dr. David A. Sherbine of Lakeland, Florida and Brentwood, Pennsylvania, died on August 30, 2023 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on February 21, 1945, in Wilmore, Pennsylvania, he was the youngest son of Carl and Anna Jane (Holsapple) Sherbine. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter Karri, who died in 1983. David is survived by his best friend of 55 years, Jo Ann (Gundlach) Sherbine and by their children: Kristofer (Mei) Sherbine of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Kreg (Angela) Sherbine of Montgomery, Alabama; Kevan Sherbine of Roy, Utah; Karen Sherbine of Lakeland, Florida; and Dr. Kortney Sherbine of Brentwood, Pennsylvania. Six grandchildren also survive him: Alexandra, Nicholas, Cindy, Nathaniel, Miranda, and Simon. Other survivors include David’s brothers, Marlin (Teresa) of Somerset, Pennsylvania and Dr. Bruce (Patricia) of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, and sisters-in-law Carol Long (Richard) of Lakeland, Florida, and Linda Gundlach of Lakeland, Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Over the years David also parented three children temporarily: Kim, Kimberly, and Jamie.
David spent 42 years providing educational leadership in the public schools of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and South Carolina. When approaching and following retirement he and Jo Ann served in the music ministries of multiple churches in South Carolina.
A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 in the Sanctuary of Cheraw First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends just prior to the service from 11:45 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the foyer of the Family Life Center at Cheraw First Baptist Church.
In 1972, while serving in a lay leadership role at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, David claimed Isaiah 6:8 as a guide for his life. This created an avenue for a lifetime of victories and challenges, successes and defeats.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in David's memory to a charity of your choice focused on education or music, or to the group home where Karen lives. For more information, contact ksherbine@newleafllc-us.com.
