Ann Mangum

Cheraw, SC

Ann Faile Mangum, 77, passed away peacefully at Levine and Dickinson Hospice House of Lake Norman on 9/04/16 with family holding her hands and surrounded by the Holy Spirit. Her battle with hydrocephalus dementia, brain surgery and a subsequent brain hemorrhage was nothing short of heroic. Ann was born in Monroe, North Carolina to the late John B. Faile and Nell W. Faile.  She had one brother, the late Dr. James T. Faile. Ann grew up in Kershaw, SC and after graduating from high school, she attended Winthrop University where she had the honor of being selected for the May-court and received a BA in early childhood education. After graduating from Winthrop University, Ann began her life long passion and career in Education.  She was a dedicated teacher for 30 years with her main tenure in Cheraw, SC where she and Jack lived for almost 47 years. They had two children, Wendi Bridgers Wood and John Albert Mangum. Ann was the heart of her family. She was a spirited and extraordinary woman who was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had an uncanny ability to draw people in and the gift of putting a smile on their faces. Her love for life, family, friends, children and teaching defined her. She was a rock for everyone in her family and to friends. She enjoyed playing tennis at Cheraw Country Club, gardening and staying at Wendi and John's houses. She loved the beach and enjoyed family trips. The highlight of her life was the birth of her three grandchildren. Her wisdom and advice over the years will always be remembered. Her stories about life left us feeling inspired and full of hope. She brought an infinite amount of love, happiness and comfort to her family and friends. Her love was a beautiful gift and although life's circumstances changed over the years, her love and heart did not. Her love was unconditional and gentle, yet powerful and profound and her devotion to her family, grandchildren and friends was unparalleled. Simply put, she was a small slice of Heaven. She is survived by her daughter Wendi Bridgers Wood and her husband, James F Wood and daughter Allison Taylor Bridgers and by her son John Albert Mangum, her daughter-in-law Stephanie V. Mangum and their children Cord and Summer Ann Mangum her sister-in-law, Mary Caroll Reed and  her brother-in-law Robert Reed and her two nephews and four nieces.  Ann's celebration of Life is Sunday, 9/11/16 at 2:00 pm at Cheraw First Baptist church with visitation following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Levine & Dickenson's Hospice House of Lake Norman.
